Since 1972, "Home is Where the Heart Is" has been the motto of the close knit community of caring individuals who live at Mt Carmel Gardens. Residents enjoy Bingo; dine outs; health fairs; shopping trips; monthly birthday parties; holiday parties; exercises; manicures; and movies in addition to the fellowship of other residents. The Tenants Association keeps their fingers on the pulse of the community and coordinates many of the social activities.
Mount Carmel Gardens currently has 207 apartments with 230 residents. One bedroom, two bedroom and studio apartments are available, complete with kitchen facilities. Resident and guest parking is available with access to public transportation just a block away. A state of the art security system is in place to assure the safety of all our residents. Sixteen (16) camera recordings are monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by staff. The Jacksonville Sheriffs Department has designated our area as a crime-free neighborhood. Added modern comforts include a guest library featuring many good books to read, and laundry facilities.
Applications are accepted by individuals and couples 62 years of age and older. Mount Carmel Gardens is a HUD 223F community with 127 apartments subsidized for single and double occupancy with low-income. A limited number of apartments are available to 18 - 55 year olds with a verifiable disability, documented by licensed personnel. Pets are permitted contingent upon following the rules and regulations for pet owners.
A strip shopping mall is just a block away with restaurants, a grocery store (Winn Dixie), a drugstore, banks, and gas stations within walking distance. Conveniently located on the Southside of Jacksonville, 3 blocks east of I-95 off University Blvd. Mount Carmel Gardens is within 2 miles of Memorial Hospital.
