The Mount Carmel Gardens Tenants Association

The Mount Carmel Gardens Tenants Association meets each month, usually the third Wednesday. This group of residents are governed by a president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer and a sargeant-at-arms as established in their by-laws. All residents are invited and encouraged to attend the monthly meetings. This is an opportunity to express concerns or identify problems. "The sole purpose of the Tenants Association is to promote a sense of goodwill toward each other, to further our expanding needs and to establish good working relations with the Building's Administration" states Carolyn Edwards, President of the Association.

Eight subcommittes of the Tenants Association are responsible for maintaining the library, ensuring birthdays are recognized, feeding the outside pets, welcoming new residents at the monthly meetings and occassionally, resolving conflict with residents. They also maintain food and other items for those residents that are less fortunate than others.

Landstar Corporation Pen Pal Program

With the assistance of Jewish Family and Community Services, The Pen Pal Program with Landstar Corporation was created to match employees with the residents of Mount Carmel Gardens. As pen pals, employees send cards, celebrate holidays, visit on weekends, or take their resident penpal out for fun excursions. The residents love this program which has grown to include 40 residents. The Penpal group had a holiday social with snacks, a violin player and exchanged gifts on December 9.
